Advantage Urinal Systems

I am a hospice nurse and have worked with a patient for the past year. He was a bed bound person for the last couple of years. He had excoriated skin and break down due to the fact that his external catheter systems failed causing wet beds. I am 63 yrs old and still very healthy. I do have active kidneys that keep active overnight, especially after drinking a lot of liquids which is good for you. This does frequently require me to get up several time a night. Returning to sleep then is difficult and I toss and turn for a long time before I can dream again.

I also love tent camping and this is a problem as the restroom is often some distance away. One night in upper Michigan, I had to go badly and it was storming out. I said to myself, there has to be a way to simplify this function of relieving ones self. Hence, over the last two years, I have tried adhesive external catheters, roll/stetch on condom catherers with the adhesive tapes, plastic urinals, pitchers, etc. These were not very user friendly ideas and often unsanitary.

Then I found the Advantage Urinal and thought it looked like a good idea and ordered one. When I got it, the urinal was larger than it apppears in the picture. The bag holds 2000cc ml.or about 1/2 gallon. I has two handles that are very convenient. I use a coat hanger between the mattress and the box springs for a hook and both the bag and urinal hang together. I then keep and hand towel covering the unit when not in use. The towel can be used to dry off after use and any accidental drips.

I can now relieve myself in bed cleanly and neatly. It should be noted the design of the unit is easy to use. I simply lie on my back or side and lean the unit against the outer thigh which allows easy access to the comfort fit opening. Then just relax let mother nature do the rest. Cleaning after use is a breeze. After emptying from a nights use, refill and flush with clean water from the sink or tub. The design of the urinal makes it easy to fill and get clean water to the holding bag for flushing out.
